Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport (IATA: ATH) is Greece’s largest and most important airport, serving as the primary gateway to Athens and the rest of the country. Opened in March 2001, it is named after Eleftherios Venizelos, a prominent Greek statesman and former Prime Minister who played a key role in the modernization of Greece.
Terminals
Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport has two terminals: the Main Terminal and the Satellite Terminal. The Main Terminal handles both Schengen and non-Schengen flights. It is divided into two halls, Hall A for non-Schengen and international flights and Hall B for domestic and Schengen-area flights. The Main Terminal features check-in counters, duty-free shops, restaurants, cafes, lounges, and essential services such as currency exchange and baggage storage.
The Satellite Terminal primarily supports international flights, helping to reduce congestion in the Main Terminal. It is connected to the Main Terminal via an underground tunnel equipped with moving walkways. While the Satellite Terminal has fewer retail and dining options, it provides additional boarding gates to accommodate increased passenger traffic. Both terminals are equipped with modern facilities, including self-service kiosks and automated passport control, ensuring smooth operations.
