TSA Lifts Longstanding Liquid Restrictions
In a historic move—the most significant since the early 2000s—the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has begun rolling back the rigid “3-1-1” liquid rule that limited travelers to carrying only 100ml containers inside a single 1-liter clear bag.
This long-standing policy is being phased out in select U.S. airports thanks to the introduction of cutting-edge CT (computed tomography) scanning technology, enabling a much more accurate assessment of carry-on items.
What’s Now Allowed ?
Thanks to this breakthrough, travelers can now pass through security checkpoints with medically and personally essential liquids in their original containers, including:
-
Prescription and non-prescription medications
-
Contact lens solutions
-
Baby formula and breast milk
-
Medical cooling packs
-
Biological samples
-
Duty-free liquids purchased post-security
No longer will parents, patients, or business travelers need to repack or discard crucial items at security—making travel more seamless and humane.
