Ankara Airport Officially Opens Ahead of NATO Summit 2026
Turkey has officially inaugurated Ankara Airport (ANK), formerly known as Etimesgut Airport, following a comprehensive modernization program designed to strengthen the capital’s aviation infrastructure and support major international events. The airport was officially opened on 15 June 2026 with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu.

According to Minister Uraloğlu, the newly upgraded airport will serve both domestic and international operations under the ANK designation and is expected to play a significant role during the NATO Summit 2026, which will take place in Ankara on 7–8 July 2026.
The redevelopment project included major infrastructure enhancements such as runway improvements, expanded apron capacity, modernized operational facilities, and dedicated VIP infrastructure to accommodate heads of state, diplomatic delegations, government aircraft, military flights, and business aviation traffic expected during the summit period.
With its strategic location closer to Ankara’s governmental and diplomatic centers, Ankara Airport is expected to complement operations at Ankara Esenboğa Airport, helping streamline protocol, VIP, and high-level governmental movements during one of the most significant international events hosted by Türkiye in recent years.
